I hear the words "green smoothie" and grimace. I'm all about healthy eating, but I feel like some health crazes go a little overboard. I mean does a kale/spinach/broccoli smoothie REALLY sound appetising? Nevertheless, I'm all for low calorie, dairy-free and processed sugar-free foods and drinks, so this morning I figured I'd throw in some spinach-y goodness to my morning smoothie and see what happened. And I liked it.
Half a banana
A few spinach leaves (a large pinch)
Half a plum (it adds a nice note of sourness to balance out the sweetness of the banana)
Vanilla protein powder (optional)
Blend all. There are no specific measurements, just freestyle according to preference. It was frothy, light, smooth and delicious! This weekend I may try the same ingredients plus half a small avocado.
