Let me introduce you to the ultimate hotel suite. Imagine a perfect azure vista with not another person in sight. A private deck on the ocean where you relax during the day and dine every night under a magnificent milky way whilst watching for fish, sting rays, turtles and baby sharks.

Step into the warm ocean from the comfort of your villa without having to head out the front door, or even snorkel your way to the nearby house reef to explore a myriad of underwater life. Local birds will occasionally stop by to have a natter and a curious peek; sometimes even a heron might pause for a rest on your deck.

Picture brushing your teeth whilst watching the fish beneath your feet, or having a massage in the comfort of your own spa room (overindulgent, I know - we never even stepped foot in there except to take a photo!).
Not all the overwater villas have this view, our island host really hooked us up with this one! Most other villas have a partial view of other people's villas, however all the decks are for the most part quite private.
As ours was the last overwater villa at the very end of the walkway, this meant we usually required buggies to get around (it's a very long walk, especially under the rays of the sweltering sun). There was one occasion when we were locked out of our suite with neither room key working and not a staff member in sight. Luckily, it's a water villa! Jarv gallantly jumped in and swam around to the deck where he let me in from the other side. Not sure that's recommended, but it did the job.
Breakfast can be taken in-villa or at one of the restaurants (remember Vilu?). We alternated where we ate our first meal of the day, but dinner was another matter. Once we moved in, there was no doubting where we wanted to dine each night - under the stars on our private deck.
I've never stayed anywhere like this before. If you're contemplating whether or not the Maldives is really worth the trek there, whether it's actually worth the price tag...in my honest opinion? It's the stuff of dreams.
